For a long time, the Subaru Forester has one of the most popular Subaru models because of its combination of a compact body style, advanced safety features and all-wheel drive capability. But now, for the first time, Subaru is launching a Forester model with a pure hybrid powertrain. It will combine Subaru's proven flat-four internal combustion engine with two electric motors to give you greater fuel efficiency while continuing the Forester's loveable driving personality. Here's more about the new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid, coming soon to McCurley Subaru of Yakima in Union Gap, WA.

What's new for 2025?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is an all-new model that will get the same exterior design refresh and newly revised chassis as the non-hybrid Forester model but the hybrid powertrain is a totally new offering. Subaru's patented Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard, and a hands-free foot-activated power tailgate is an available upgrade. The Forester Hybrid offers Yakima, WA buyers a new electric power steering system that it shares with Subaru's dynamic rally car, the WRX.

Exterior Design

The 2025 Subaru Forester is highlighted by attractive exterior elements like well-contoured lines, unique design touches that include geometric trim accents, headlights and front grille. The Forester Hybrid also offers Ellensburg, WA buyers an exclusive black roof paint option to set this model even further apart from the crowd.

Performance

The well-engineered new powertrain in the Subaru Forester Hybrid teams up a 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine operating with the efficient Atkinson cycle along with a pair of electric motors. One motor sends power to the wheels and the other operates as a motor generator. The Forester Hybrid comes with a sealed lithium battery and it's described by Subaru as a series-parallel system. That means the powertrain can toggle back and forth between the engine and the electric motors to send power to the wheels based on the driving conditions.

The combined result is 194 horsepower, which is 14 more than the non-hybrid version of the Forester. The beauty of this pure hybrid is that you don't have to worry about recharging the battery because it happens through a combination of power from the engine and regenerative braking. Standard features include a continuously variable transmission and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, something that Sunnyside, WA outdoor fans will appreciate.

Fuel economy

Because it's a hybrid, the Subaru Forester Hybrid will give you better fuel efficiency and the traditional Forester. The EPA hasn't released official estimates but it's expected the 2025 Forester Hybrid will give you up to 40% better fuel economy in a city like Moses Lake, WA and provide as much as 25% better combined fuel efficiency. That means the city number would be an amazing 36 MPG and the combined city/highway figure will be about 25 MPG, so you'll save a lot on fuel.

Interior and technology

The coming 2025 Forester Hybrid will have a new 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen that's even larger than the 11.6-inch infotainment screen in the gas-powered Forester model. The Forester Hybrid will have a little less cargo space than the non-hybrid because of the room required for the battery under the floor. But Union Gap, WA owners will find enough space for cargo in the 27.5 cubic feet the Forester Hybrid gives you behind the second row.

Safety features

Every new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid will come with Subaru's exclusive EyeSight® collection of camera-based safety features. That will include standard automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
